Merseyrails class 507 & 508 EMUs, built by BREL at York Carriage Works, are in the twilight period of their 40+ years' careers, being replaced by the new class 777 EMU/BEMUs. In this 14 July view in the stabling sidings at Southport can be seen 507007, and beyond it 508128. Shortly after this view was taken 508128, along with 508111, were, for some unknown reason, hauled to Crewe South Yard where they were left. However, on 5 October, they set out on their final journey, being hauled to Sims Metals at Newport for scrapping.
