In this photograph, believed to date from 1968, an eastbound Swindon DMU has left Airdrie and is about to pass the former Calderbank Iron Works branch overbridge, not long after leaving Airdrie. The photographer did not record the reason for this unusual occurrence but, as he took several shots that day of Swindon units in the Airdrie area, the train was almost certainly a diverted Edinburgh service running from Glasgow Queen St Low Level because of a problem on the normal route via Falkirk High.
