Type 2 diesels at Oban in the early nineteen sixties. The NBL version did not remain in service for long, but the BRCW one (subsequently Class 27) proved more reliable and continued until replacement by Class 37s at the end of the nineteen seventies. MV 'Claymore' can be seen at the pier. Dating from 1955, she was notable as the last major Macbrayne vessel built for purely passenger and mail services. Thereafter car ferries became the norm.
