Looking for old Rishworth station I found this stone abutment but could not see how to access the site at the top. I later discovered that the station approach road was on a huge and steeply graded trestle bridge, which spanned the confluence of two rivers. The station was on a climbing line that was intended to go through the Pennines in a long tunnel heading for Littleborough. When that failed it became a poorly sited terminus of a branch line. Passenger services to Sowerby Bridge ceased in 1929 and goods services in 1953 when the trestle bridge became unsafe and repairs could not be justified.
