Penshaw [2nd]
This complex support for a road bridge serving a few houses and a farm is probably one of the smaller obstacles to re-opening the Leamside line, which passed through the right hand side of this view before curving round to the Victoria viaduct (over the photographer's shoulder). The line to the left ran to Sunderland, and has now been re-opened to South Hylton as part of the T&W Metro. The sites of both Penshaw stations were beyond this bridge.
