Cantley: A train from Norwich bound for Great Yarmouth photograhed at Cantley station in July 2002.
Kirkham and Wesham: The new third platform taking shape at Kirkham on 21st November 2017. This station will reopen at the end of January 2018, but only for trains to Blackpool South until the rest of the Fylde lines electrification project is complete.
Blackpool North: Electrification work at Blackpool North carriage sidings where a new washing plant can be seen on 21st November 2017. A single track is in place on the main line for materials removal and Freightliner 66597 is at the head of a spoil train. The first point has been laid and it looks like the severe speed restriction at the old station throat is going to be eased considerably.
Blackpool North: Rather symbolically, a bulldozer trundles past the site of Blackpool No. 2 on 21st November 2017. The old L&Y box had been swept away a few days previously and trackwork quickly lifted as a new layout is planned. Smaller instruments were removed for further use but the rest of the structure and the lever frame were broken up on site.
Blackpool North: A new Platform 1/2, taking shape at Blackpool North on 21st November 2017. This looks like it will be capable of taking Pendolinos. Much still to do during the nineteen week closure but clearance work has been rapid in the ten days since closure.
Aberdeen: Aberdeen's traditional street signage points travellers south from Union Street on 13th November 2017.
Port Glasgow: Glen Sannox, Calmac’s new ferry for the Ardrossan to Brodick route was launched from Ferguson’s Shipyard at Port Glasgow on a dreich 21st November 2017.
Portobello East Junction: A 158 for Tweedbank slows right down (as required) to leave the ECML at Portobello on 26/10/2017. Behind it on the wheel lathe line are some Royal Scotsman coaches, finished with for the season. The seemingly rural background is deceptive: there's plenty of suburbia between Portobello Golf Course and Arthur's Seat.
Stranraer Shed: The only remaining part of Stranraer MPD, now in a scrapyard which itself appears closed.
Carleton Crossing: Progress has a sad side. The little gate box at Carleton Crossing is dismantled by contractors on 21st November 2017, ten days after it signalled its last train. It is believed the roof section was removed to allow the small lever frame to be lifted out and the various instruments have been recovered for use elsewhere. Blackpool No.2 was the first box to be demolished and the contractors are expected to move on to Poulton No.3 after this task.
Royal Border Bridge: 66744 crossing the Royal Border Bridge with an engineers train from Tyne Yard to Millerhill on 25th October 2017.
Allington Junction: It's not every day you see an HST on a curve like this. A Nottingham to Skegness service [see image 60956 for the return leg] on the curve between Allington East and North Junctions after leaving Grantham on 9th September 2017. [Ref query 20 November 2017]
Summerseat: Resident GRC&W Bubble Car 55001 approaches Summerseat, with a CCT van in tow, on a Ramsbottom to Bury service during the ELR Scenic Railcar Gala on 4th November 2017.
Neath: A Swansea to Cardiff Central Class 143 Pacer service entering Neath Station 0n 10th November 2017.
Preesall: An interesting image of brand new (almost finished) Preesall station, on the 1908 extension of the line from Pilling to Knott End. 0-6-0T Knott End is pulling in with two of the Lancaster C&W veranda coaches and a guards van. Note the makeshift station sign in the foreground, presumably later replaced with a proper fitting. The station was only open for 22 years but after closure in 1930 goods trains continued to pass through until 1950.
Lancaster: Station announcement at Lancaster as 37402 rolled in with 2C32 Carlisle to Preston on 13th November 2017. 'This is a VERY old train. The doors are not power assisted. You will have to use the door handles provided'. He might have added 'but it will sound tremendous and there's a good view from every seat!'
Milton of Crathes: The superb building at Milton of Crathes.
St Pancras: A Southeastern Javelin arrives at St Pancras platform 12 on 10 November 2017. On the right on platform 13 a pair of Javelin sets are parked waiting for their next trip along HS1 to Kent.
Galashiels: The 0955 ex-Waverley leaving the platform at Galashiels on 9 November 2017 on the last short leg of its journey to Tweedbank. Meantime, in the background, the last of the newly arrived passengers crosses the A7 Ladhope Vale to reach the Interchange building - notwithstanding the traffic signals!
