Dunnottar Signal Box: 6M86 travelling light with only five tanks in tow, heading to Irvine then onto Workington tomorrow after a midnight stop in Crewe yard. I was expecting to see a bit more of a change from the work QTS are doing or going to be doing. Trees have been cut down and wire mesh installed down at the bridge 334. The location is south west of Stonehaven.

Crow Nest Junction: 150111 leads a brace of Sprinters coming off the Atherton line at Crow Nest Junction with a service for Kirby on 27th April 2021. Immediately to the right of the train is the location of the BR signal cabin that was installed around 1968 when the junction was simplified. This replaced a large L&YR box that was in the fork of the junction. See image [[35542]] from 2011 when the BR signal box was still operational (It closed in 2013).

Hollyhill: The surviving, although ruined, station building at Hollyhill between Skibbereen and Ballydehob on the Schull and Skibbereen Railway which opened in 1886 and was formally closed in 1952 although services had been suspended since January 1947.

Lady Victoria Colliery: Covid restrictions coupled with the current ScotRail strike served only to emphasise the Sunday morning stillness at Newtongrange on 2 May 2021. The walk from the deserted station car park along the path to the closed National Mining Museum (hoping to reopen soon) leads past the old yard on the north side of the former colliery. The abandoned railway vehicle is one of the narrow gauge surface cars used on the Easthouses Tramway (see image [[72286]]). Beyond the metal fence the Borders Line passes the site some 30 feet below ([[67783]]).

Boarhills Viaduct: The surviving viaduct across the Kenly Water at Boarhills in April 2021. Nearby Boarhills station closed in 1930 but the line remained open. The last passenger trains crossed this viaduct in 1965 and complete closure came the following year.

Barton and Broughton: Open Train Times showed that something was parked up in Barton Down Loop on 3rd May 2021. The Tesco is often looped here but I wasn't expecting an empty TPE EMU. Just as I arrived the driver climbed down and walked the full length of the train checking all the undersides. It had gone by a couple of hours later when I passed again - cause unknown at this time.

Pickering: Preserved Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 no 45212 brings a train from Grosmont into Pickering on 12 October 2009. It would be another 18 months before the NYMR station saw reinstatement of its overall roof. (See image [[71936]]).

Edinburgh Park: A service from Helensburgh calls at Edinburgh Park on 21 April 2021 (at 10.50, as you can see). Trains from Milngavie are a casualty of the emergency timetable along with half of the Dunblane and Cumbernauld line services. This leaves Edinburgh Park with 4 trains an hour each way instead of 8. Let's hope things ease soon.
