These storage tanks were on the south east side of the Grangemouth Eastern Channel. The depot was established by the Anglo-American Oil Company with oil being offloaded here from tankers from America. Oil was pumped from the vessels to the tanks.
Burning oils and petrol were handled.
With the Rosyth Naval Dockyard across the river and to the east the locations would become increasingly important.
These tanks began Grangemouth's long association with the oil industry.
