Name and dates

Barrasford Quarry

Description

This quarry is about half way between the villages of Barrasford and Gunnterton. It was developed after the Border Counties Railway and was served by a siding from the line. From the siding tramways ran north into the quarry itself. Nearby, immediately to the west, the Gunnerton Quarry Waggonway ran north to Gunnerton Quarry.

The siding was approached from the south east and was on the north side of the line. The location was signalled with a signal box on the south side of the line.

The railway closed in 1958.

The quarry remains open, now owned by Tarmac . It is a source of railway ballast.
