Name and dates

Bedlay Colliery Siding (1905-1981)

Opened on the Bedlay Colliery (William Baird & Co).

Description

This was the exchange yard for Bedlay Colliery, the colliery steam locomotives picking up empty wagons and dropping off those loaded here for pick up by the railway company.

The sidings, a series of looped lines on an east-west alignment, were approached from Bedlay Junction to the west.

After 1969 a new approach from the south was laid in. The exchange sidings remained in use, despite being no longer on direct approach.

The yard closed with the colliery and line in December 1981.
