This was the junction between the 1860-62 line from Westcraigs to Shotts Loops and the West Benhar Branch (North British Railway) of 1864. Both railways were single track minerals lines.
The signal box here closed in 1899, replaced by that further north at Benhar Level Crossing Signal Box.
Much of the formation was obliterated by later mining. The branch closed in the 1930s but the main line was to survive until 1963.
The location was also known as West Benhar Junction.
