Name and dates

Bishopbriggs Oil Depot (1960-1995)

Served by the Cadder Marshalling Yard and Colliery Branches (North British Railway).

Description

This oil storage and road distribution depot was on the eastern edge of Bishopbriggs, at Low Moss, served by a siding from the west end of Cadder Yard. The depot was on the north side of the line. It received oil from Grangemouth New Oil Terminal. It was owned by Shell-Mex, later Shell.

The depot had four dead end sidings, with the yard being so close no loop was needed. The site was approached from loops off the main line between the main line and the up yard (the sidings on the north side). It was not connected to the hump shunt siding and it survived closure of the yard.

The depot opened around 1960 and closed in 1995 (or 1993, sources vary).
