Bridge
Boyne Viaduct (1855-)
Opened on the Dublin and Belfast Junction Railway.
This was built, beginning in 1851, as a masonry and wrought iron viaduct and opened in 1855.
The wrought iron portions were replaced by the Motherwell Bridge and Engineering Works in 1932. The old bridge was closed in June and new spans inserted within the old ones, which were then removed. It re-opened in November.
11/05/1853 | Dublin and Belfast Junction Railway Temporary Boyne Viaduct opened over the Boyne at Drogheda, linking Drogheda (and the line south to Dublin) to Newfoundwell (a temporary terminus for the north line to Belfast). This completes the line between Dublin and Belfast. |
