Loco shed

Name and dates

Burnfoothill Engine Shed (1865-1937)

Opened on the Dalmellington Iron Company (Phase 2).

Description

This was a small single track locomotive shed near the top of the Drumgrange Incline at Drumgrange Incline Head [2nd]. Approach was from the south, from the direction of the incline head. The shed was in the 'V' of the junction between the line from the incline and the plateau line.

Just to the east was the Ayrshire hill mining village of Lethanhill. The shed was separated from the village by the football fields. Just to the west was the shed pond.

Little remains of the shed, especially after recent mining operations, but the route of the line from the incline and main plateau line remain visible.
