/ /1973	Townsend Thoresen Townsend Thoresen commence running from Cairnryan to Larne Harbour.
/ /1987	Townsend Thoresen P&O European Ferries Townsend Thoresen, operator of the Cairnryan to Larne Harbour service amongst others, becomes P&O European Ferries.
/ /1998	P&O European Ferries P&O Irish Sea The Irish Sea operations of P&O European Ferries becomes P&O Irish Sea. The company was the operator of the Cairnryan to Larne Harbour service amongst others.
/ /2003	Stena Line Announces closure of the Stranraer ferry terminal with relocation to Cairnryan. An upgrade of the A77 is announced by the Scottish Executive.
/ /2010	P&O Irish Sea P&O Ferries P&O Irish Sea, operator of the Cairnryan - Larne Harbour and Troon Harbour - Larne Harbour services amongst others, is merged back into P&O and becomes P&O Ferries.
/11/2011	Portpatrick Railway Stena Line Stena Line ceased operating ferries to Stranraer Pier, running instead to Old House Point, north of Cairnryan. This slightly reduced the journey but took the ferry service away from the railway, passengers now needing to use a connecting bus service.
