Cawburn Junction

Location type

Junction

Name and dates

Cawburn Junction (1986-2010)

Station code: National Rail
Opened on the Edinburgh and Bathgate Railway.

Description

This was not a true junction. The double track line from Newbridge Junction, to the east, singled here as it continued west. A temporary panel box opened in 1986, closing when taken over by the Edinburgh Signalling Centre.

For the re-opening of the line between Airdrie and Bathgate, in 2010, the line west was re-doubled, work beginning in 2007.

Just to the east of this location the Roman Camp Oilworks Railway passed overhead the line, connecting together the Roman Camp Oil Works and Broxburn Branch (North British Railway). The bridge abutments partly survive.
