The Ordnance Survey map of 1899 shows a signal box on the west side of the line at a location near (a little to the south of) today's Loch Treig Tunnel but on the original, now flooded, course of the line. The box is shown having signals to both north and south. To its south a lineside cottage is shown.
This was a temporary signal box in operation during re-ballasting of the line alongside Loch Treig in the late 1890s.
This original course of the line is normally under the waters of Loch Treig, a reservoir since the 1930s (see Loch Treig Dam). At low water nothing can be found of this signal box or lineside cottage.
