Junction
Mallaranny [2nd] (1895-1937)
Opened on the Achill Extension Railway.
Note: text in square brackets is added for clarity and was not part of the location's name.
This was a two platform station with a passing loop. The main station building was on the westbound platform. At the east end of the eastbound platform was a watertank. Both the building and watertank base were brick built.
The station replaced Mullaranny [1st] with the extension of the line to Achill.
There are several variations of the spelling including Mullaranny and Mulranny.
The Railway Hotel, now Mulranny Park Hotel, opened to the south in 1897.
The disused platforms remain, the trackbed slightly infilled. The station building (restored) also survives as does the water tank.
The trackbed is now a scenic Greenway (foot/cyclepath).
