Name and dates

Mannieshall Siding (-1964)

Opened on the Salsburgh Branch (Caledonian Railway).

Description

This siding, loop and signal box were north of Lanridge Junction on the Salsburgh Branch (Caledonian Railway). The facilities were largely associated with the mineral lines serving the Greenhill Colliery mines.

To the south of the Mannieshall loop were mineral lines to Greenhill Colliery Pit No 12 and Greenhill Colliery Pit No 9 (both on the west side of the line) and Greenhill Colliery Auchinlea Pit No 10 and North Auchinlee Quarry and Brick Works (to the south and on the east side).

To the north of the loop, on the east side, was Greenhill Colliery Pit Nos 13 and 14.

The box closed in 1919.

The railway north from here was to close in 1956. In 1964 the line was cut back to Lanridge Junction.

Today this is a farmed area with some house building. The trackbed remains, partly landscaped.
