Opened on the Midland Counties Railway. This was the terminus of the Midland Counties Railway branch from Long Eaton.
The station was replaced by the present Nottingham station not long after the line was continued east by the Midland Railway to Lincoln in 1846. The newer station opened in 1848, when the Mansfield Branch (Midland Railway) opened.
The first station had been located to the west of Carrington Street to the north of the later line. The site became a goods station which survived until 1966.
