This is a two platform station at Starbeck, east of Harrogate. The station has a level crossing and signal box at the southern/eastern end. It is on the line from Harrogate (to the west) to York (to the east). It is located on a double track section which singles at Knaresborough (the next station east).
It was originally on the Leeds and Thirsk Railway opening in 1848 as a station for Harrogate.Trains entered at the southern/eastern end from Leeds, so the station has had a change of orientation. When opened the present Harrogate station did not exist, although Harrogate [Brunswick], the terminus of the line from Church Fenton was open.
New links made in 1862 led to the opening of the present Harrogate station.
Starbeck North Junction (1862-1969) was to the north west of the station.
Starbeck South Junction (1851 - 1951) was to the south east of the station.
There was a goods yard on the south/west side of the line, now a housing estate.
