This distillery is the oldest in the Isle of Skye. It is located at Carbost by Loch Harport on the east side of the Minginish Peninsula.
The distillery was formerly linked by a 2 ft tramway to the nearby pier to the north, opened around 1900. For much of its life this line was horse operated. The distillery closed during the Second World War. Having re-opened from 1945 until closure in 1948 tractors were used.
The River Talisker and Talisker House are on the west coast of the peninsula.
