Date: 06/11/2002

Lewis Macdonald, the Scottish Executives Deputy Minister for Enterprise, Transport and Lifelong Learning, announced a commitment to make up to £750,000 available to Dumfries and Galloway Council for the provision of a new, fully accessible, footbridge for Lockerbie Station which will finally allow passengers whose mobility is impaired to access the stations southbound platform.

Toby Rackliff, Railway Development Officer for Dumfries and Galloway Council, responded for the council, "... The new accessible footbridge, coupled with the proposed early morning services to both Glasgow and Edinburgh from next May, represent the final elements of a package of improvements which should enable Lockerbie Station to assume its rightful role as the InterCity gateway to Southern Scotland.”
