A new line is under construction connecting the Knockshinnoch branch at Creoch Junction to a new opencast site at Greenburn. Both the Knockshinnoch branch and Greenburn branch will be signalled from New Cumnock, and to improve capacity motorised points and colour light signalling are to be installed. The line will follow a similar course to a closed line.
