Sidings planned for Glenmuckloch opencast coal mine

Date: 09/04/2002

An opencast mine is proposed at Glenmuckloch, just north of Kirkconnel, which is intended to be rail served. The source is coal is particularly required after the closure of the Longannet/Castlebridge/Solsgirth complex which served Longannet Powerstation. There is a danger that the coal may travel by road rather than rail especially as there is a difficulty sourcing signalling at present. Perhaps the coal will be taken to Knockshinnoch for loading if purpose built sidings are not opened.
