Virgin train derailed at Mossend

Date: 26/11/2000

A Virgin train running from London to Glasgow derailed at low speed at Mossend whilst on a diverted route in the Glasgow area. The diversion was via Holytown, Mossend, Motherwell and the Hamilton circle to allow track repairs in the Glasgow area. The train de-railed due to 'gauge spread' where the rails are pushed apart.
