G8 summit starts tomorrow at Gleneagles, former LMS Railway Hotel

Date: 06/07/2005

The G8 summit begins on the 7th at Gleneagles Hotel. The Hotel opened in 1924. It was commissioned by the Caledonian Railway but was not opened by that company as it had merged into the London, Midland and Scottish Railway the year before (1923).
As many articles point out the hotel was served by its own railway which ran out from Gleneagles station on the former Scottish Central Railway which still stands today.

It is hard to believe that Gleneagles station has been unstaffed for many years as it always looks so good. Unusually it has run-in boards at right angles to the track, as if for the drivers^ benefit rather than the passengers^. View looks south, so those are the Ochils rather than the proper Highlands - and I don^t want to get into an argument about where the Highlands start. Highland Spring? From Blackford?
