Coal trains operating over Weardale Railway [Rail.co]





Date: 21/07/2011

Up to 150,000 tonnes per annum of high quality coking coal, from the Park Wall North surface mine in the Wear Valley, will be shipped to the market over a three year period using a new coal transload facility at Wolsingham.

The former Wearhead branch line is currently disconnected at the junction although further up the branch the Weardale Railway group remains active in the Wolsingham/Stanhope area despite the past financial difficulties that have dogged the project.
