Neil calls on Transport Minister to deliver new railway station for Plains [STV]

Date: 19/11/2011

Alex Neil has again voiced his support for the creation of a dedicated railway station in Plains. The Airdrie and Shotts MSP says he plans to issue his own submission to Transport Scotland’s on-going consultation on the future of rail passenger services in Scotland to argue for a new station to be built in the village. During the building of the multi-million Airdrie to Bathgate railway line, new stations were built at Caldercruix and Drumgelloch while the main Airdrie station was upgraded. However, transport chiefs decided against building a station in Plains.

Looking west at Plains towards the level crossing. The house to the right is on the site of the signalbox and would be demolished if the line re-opens. (Update - the house was subsequently demolished!)
