A SURVIVOR of Britain’s railway past that has travelled many miles in its working life has been restored to become a national treasure for many keen to see a glimpse of its Victorian origins. Yesterday, a locomotive with a place in the history of the end steam on Britain’s railways hauled passengers for the first time in many years in a commemorative train on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. The London and North Western Railway (LNWR) company’s “coal tank” number 1054 was built 124 years ago and has been patiently restored [From Richard Buckby]

The man himself. Cam Camwell stands in front of his 80th birthday special train at Shrewsbury where the LNWR 0-6-2T Coal Tank 1054 (58926) had just backed on to take the three coaches to Stockport via Chester. A thoroughly enjoyable and memorable day out for all concerned and an excellent way to say thank you to a man who not only organised countless special trains but was also very generous over many years in supplying photographs from his vast collection to railway book authors.
