Maud open event will track steam railway era [Press and Journal]

A major milestone in the story of a once-vital north-east transport link will be marked this weekend at a popular museum which tracks Buchan’s bygone railway era.

D5323 prepares to take the Formartine and Buchan Railtour out of Peterhead on 24 May 1969. Passenger services were withdrawn in 1965, although freight operations at the busy fishing port continued for a further 5 years. Nothing of the railway remains here today, with the site now occupied by Peterhead Academy [see image 17391].
