Scotland's rail network has seen far less than the intended impact of the notorious Beeching report, published 50 years ago next week, analysis by The Scotsman shows. Powerful political lobbying reprieved several famous lines earmarked for the axe, while a number of others which were closed have since been reopened to passengers.
