Plans backed for heritage trail on old railway line [Northern Echo]

PLANS for a heritage trail along the old railway line between Barnard Castle and West Auckland are being revived. A previous attempt to launch a South West Durham Heritage Corridor based around the railway line stalled in 2008.

The trackbed of the Bishop Auckland - Barnard Castle line in a cutting on the western edge of Cockfield Fell, looking south west in September 2010. The general formation and cutting sides still look fairly neat, given the photograph was taken 58 years after closure.
