Wakefield's new £8m railway station opens [BBC News]

The new £8m Wakefield Westgate railway station has opened to passengers. Train operators East Coast Main Line said it is the first new station built on the Scotland to London route "in decades".

National Express liveried HST power car 43312 draws to a halt in the Up platform at Wakefield Westgate at the head of a Leeds to Kings Cross service on 4 September 2009. Although Westgate station has only two platforms they are signalled for traffic in both directions, as is the through road, with the station handling a frequent train service.
