Cost of Glasgow to Edinburgh rail upgrade soars [Herald]

THE cost of improving rail travel between Glasgow and Edinburgh has risen by more than £90 million due largely to an expanded redevelopment of Queen Street Station. Contracts have been awarded for the Edinburgh to Glasgow improvement programme (Egip), which has risen in cost from £650 million to £741.5m.

A look across the platforms at Queen Street on 14 August. As can be seen this is very much Class 170 territory (as opposed to Glasgow Central where they're unknown). Usually however one or both of the other two DMU classes in Scotland is around somewhere, with 156s forming all WHL services, and 158s the usual fare on the Maryhill line.
