Siemens has been named as the preferred supplier for a new fleet of trains for GTRs Great Northern services. The 25 six-car trains will be a variant of the Class 700 units being supplied for Thameslink and will replace the current fleet of Class 313 trains. Subject to the order being successfully completed in the new year, the new trains could enter passenger service by the end of 2018 between Welwyn and Hertford, Stevenage and Letchworth.
