Direct Rail Services has developed a business plan for the next 20 years, but admits that the use of heritage vehicles (20s, 37s, 57s) is no longer economically, technically or environmentally viable for the entirety of the current strategy period.

One quarter of the DRS Class 20 fleet passes Hest Bank level crossing on a Sellafield to Crewe working on 17 August, comprising a single wagon. 20312 (VF 1959) and 20302 (RSH 1961) are from the same era as the doomed Hest Bank box (1958) but hopefully the locos still have further useful life ahead of them.
