The cost of a project to cut journey times on Scotlands busiest rail route has risen by more than £110 million. The estimated cost of the scheme to cut ten minutes off the journey between Edinburgh and Glasgow has gone from £742 million to £858 million. Plans to increase the number of seats and frequency of services have also been delayed. The rail regulator described the cost rise as deeply concerning and said it was investigating the delays and budget overruns on the Transport Scotland electrification project .
