Wallyford railway station has marked its 25th anniversary. Opened on June 13, 1994, it now handles about 300,000 passengers per year or just under 6,000 each week.

During the station boom of the mid 1980s there were plans for two new stations between Waverley and Prestonpans to be called Musselburgh West and Musselburgh East. In the event the former opened fairly swiftly in 1988 as plain Musselburgh, but another six years were to elapse before the other one was opened, and called Wallyford. Here it is under construction in April 1994.
