Wales' busiest railway station will be 'significantly' upgraded and a new station will link the west to the south, it has been announced. UK Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said £58m would be spent on revamping Cardiff Central and West Wales Parkway would be built in Felindre, Swansea. The move will also see journey times between Wales' two biggest cities cut by up to 14 minutes from December.

New order 67002 waits in platform 1 at Cardiff Central prior to departure with the 16.15 limited stop service to Holyhead via Crewe. In the event departure was some 20 mins late, as the service was delayed until dispatch staff ensured the driver, who had arrived late from the north, did not cut short his allotted break period. As the service was blocking the platform the 16.25 FGW HST service to London, ex Swansea, was put into Valley Lines platform 6, in turn impacting on those services.
