From today - Sunday 1 March - the Government has taken over the running of services across the Northern railway network.The Government had announced in late January that train operator Northern was to lose its rail franchise. Operator Arriva Rail North had been under fire for months for 'unacceptable' delays, as well as the poor standard of its rolling stock.A spokesman for the Department for Transport said the Government's mission now is to rebuild passenger confidence, and put their priorities first.
