Plans for a massive tyre-recycling plant on part of the Dalzell Steelworks have been approved despite protests from railway managers. UK Rubber Ltd applied to build an operation capable of recycling up to 62,250 tonnes of tyres per year at the site in Motherwell, Lanarkshire. But Network Rail objected to the plans and said fires at the site near the West Coast Mainline could see delays for passengers, evacuations and massive financial losses in compensation to train companies.
