Investigators say the train which derailed near Stonehaven was travelling close to the maximum speed for the line. [Railscot note - Network Rail's sectional appendix shows that for HSTs the limit is 75mph between 219 miles 39 chains (Carmont Level Crossing) and 224 miles 23 chains (near Stonehaven). For other trains the limit is 65mph.]
