Robert Burns knew it as ^Auld Ayr, wham ne^er a town surpasses, For honest men and bonny lasses^. The Scottish bard would not recognise it now. Save Britain^s Heritage (SBH) says the town at the heart of Burns country is becoming a ^wasteland of demolition sites^. The conservation charity is campaigning to stop the local council from demolishing Ayrs Victorian Station Hotel because it says the loss of the derelict but still ^impressive^ landmark will add to the towns decline.
