Friends of Buxton Station honoured with Queens Award [Community Rail Network]

The Friends of Buxton Station (FoBS) have been honoured with The Queens Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award volunteers can receive in the UK, and viewed by some as the MBE for volunteers.

Buxton is well known for its attractive fan window (See image 63399) but this sculpture is one of a number of contributions made by Friends of Buxton Station to maintaining an attractive and interesting station environment. In partnership with local rail authorities the Friends commissioned Andy Hill to produce this artwork from materials salvaged from the nearby Buxton traction Maintenance Depot just prior to its demolition in 2016.
