Thousands of tonnes of essentials transported by rail to Scotland daily [Logistics Manager]

With COP26 now well under way, the rail industry's We Mean Green campaign aims to highlight how moving more goods by rail could help combat climate change.

Every 24 hours, more than 8,000 tonnes of food, products and other essentials pass over the England-Scotland border at Gretna in freight trains - the greenest way of transporting food, drink and other essentials in bulk.

0715hrs, 9th June 2020, and the Story contractor's staff haven't yet arrived at the works site at Forton cutting. Freightliner 90041 and 90045 power north with a Crewe to Coatbridge intermodal service. Contrary to appearances this was actually lightly loaded as the rear half of the train comprised empty wagons. Some new faces should appear on these workings soon, with the transfer of the former Greater Anglia Class 90s to Freightliner, although this will probably spell the end of the Class 86 fleet.
