It will take you to a stunning surfer's paradise. They used to say that all roads lead to Rome, but in fact all railways lead to London - or so it appears. Even some of the remotest places in the UK have surprising rail links that mean you can swap the buzz of the capital for rural bliss - and in some cases complete isolation - within just a few hours. One station in particular lies so far distant it's right on the other side of the Scottish Highlands and when you get there you can catch a ferry to the stunning Orkney islands. Thurso is literally about as far north as you can go and still be in the UK.
