National rail strike: Key information for Metro customers [Tyne and Wear Metro]

Railway workers on the national rail network are going on a one-day strike over pay and jobs.The strike, which Nexus employees are not part of, are due to take place on Thursday 18 August and Saturday 20 August. Further dates may follow. How will the strike affect Metro? Tyne and Wear Metro employees are not taking industrial action, but there will be an impact on Metro services operating between Pelaw and South Hylton because this stretch of line is part of the national rail network which is owned and managed by Network Rail. If Network Rail does not have enough people at work to operate signals then train services cannot run.
