Merseyrail warn of disruption ahead on Northern Line [Liverpool Echo]

Large numbers of commuters will be affected as work is carried out in preparation for new fleet of trains. Liverpool Central station will shut to all Northern Line trains for three days at the end of the month. Merseyrail has announced that there will be significant disruption to its services at the end of the month as work to prepare Liverpool Central station for a new fleet of Class 777 trains takes place.

One of Merseyrails new Stadler Class 777s is seen in platform 1 at Southport whilst out on the afternoon test run from Sandhills on 28 September 2021. The units are 4 car however the inner two cars are shorter than the driving cars resulting in the Class 777 being only slightly longer than the Class 507s and 508s that they will replace. 777049 getting ready for departure from Liverpool Central with a Kirkby service on 1st February 2023. The light around the door was green until they started to close when it turned red. The level access step will also retract when the doors have closed. Liverpool Central will temporarily close for a period during February to be made ready to accept eight coach 777s, which are slightly longer than six coach 507 and 508 trains.
