View west over the series of bridges which carry Shields Road over the railways south west of Glasgow Central. From right to left: Glasgow Central to Paisley (former Glasgow and Paisley Joint), High Street to Shields Road (former City of Glasgow Union), Larkfield to Shields Road (former General Terminus and Glasgow Harbour Railway). Only the first of these carries a regular timetabled passenger service. A further line carried the now closed portion of the Paisley Canal line over the General terminus line (which had earlier burrowed under the Glasgow, Paisley and Ardrossan Canal) and under Shields Road. Another tunnel carried a closed line from the CGU to meet the approach to General Terminus.

Shields Road main line station had no interchange with the Subway station of the same name, which is some way off in Scotland Street. There were platforms here on lines to the west from both Glasgow Central and St Enoch which met in the distance where a Class 322 is retreating to Shields depot. A short length of platform remains on the Glasgow and Paisley lines in September 2010 and can be seen behind the nearest gantry as 334 037 slows for Bridge Street Junction and Glasgow Central.
